Bonnie Richardson Wins Track Team Championship By Herself

Bonnie RichardsonRecently, I posted about how sometimes you can’t rely on the “team” to get to your goals, but I also know that my band wouldn’t be where we are today if we didn’t act as a team.  Now here is a girl that plays a team sport – without teammates!  Bonnie Richardson of Rochelle, Texas is one phenomenal girl.  If you’re not familiar with her story, Bonnie is a one-person track team.  That’s right – she IS the track team.

Last year, Bonnie went to the state championships – and won.  She competed in five events and placed high enough in those events to outscore the other teams!  It’s difficult enough to place when you focus on just one or two events, but Bonnie competes in five events at every meet and she excels in all of them.  This year, Bonnie did it again!  She went all the way to the state championships and scored high enough in her five events to win it again.

Her only regret?

“I wish I hadn’t stuck with the same five events, that I had branched out more. I would’ve vaulted, but we don’t have the money or interest in Rochelle to have a pit. I’ve never done hurdles, and I want to.”

Bonnie will be attending Texas A&M in the fall and I’m betting this isn’t the last time we will hear from her. I’m pretty confident the Aggies have both hurdles and pole vaulting equipment.  Go get ‘em Bonnie!
