It’s Not Miley’s Fault

Ok – I started something. I ranted a little to let off some steam and it turned into something huge. My post on the Miley Cyrus Hannah Montana ticket scalping has risen to the top of the Hot Topic stack in just a matter of days. The article has been getting hit like crazy from angry parents across the US who bought into the Miley world fan club in order to get pre-sale tickets to the tour only to be told the shows were sold out just minutes. At this moment, the comments are about to top 100, so I just wanna add one little, tiny addendum to all this hoopla…

It’s not Miley’s fault. Let’s back up a second and think about this. She’s what…15? I’d be really surprised if she even knows that this is going on. And if she does know, I can almost guarantee she has NO control over it whatsoever. My college degree is in Music Business. I’ve studied the ins and outs of the entertainment industry from recording contracts to touring. I had one class that spent almost two-third of the semester just covering Disney and their way of doing things and how to handle a contract with Disney alone. That being said, I just want folks to give the girl a break.

Yes, my kids are disappointed that that they didn’t get tickets either, but we will still support Miley and her music. Please don’t overlook the fact that she is recording vibrant, positive music that promotes self-esteem, a much needed message among young girls these days. I would rather my pre-teen girls listen to Miley than some boy-crazy mush by other artists.

I do agree that something fishy is going on here with the tickets and only time will reveal the truth, but let’s not blame Miley for this mess. She has no control over this. She is just a girl caught in the middle.

    Fully agree, I’ve not said one thing bad about her in my rants and raves. It’s the promoters, venues and scalpers that have caused this mess.

    Higgy – You’ve been great! I appreciate that about your posts. :) I think we should also generate some support or her. I would hate to see her career go down the tubes over something she has no control over. Kids will often take on the opinions of the adults they are with. Even though I am angry about not getting tickets, I have been very positive with my kids about the situation. I do not want my bad experience with tickets to poison my kids’ perception of Miley. They are two separate things.

    I agree that it is solely the fault of the venues, ticketmaster, and the crooks that call themselves ticket brokers.

    I just really hate that parents are are dogging the Mileyworld website. “They” chose to pay the membership fee to try to get an advantage over the general public. It didn’t work. So get over it. Myself, i enrolled my daughter back in May, long before we even KNEW about a concert. I didn’t do it for tickets, but because she wanted to be a member of the fan club. Did i try to get tickets on presale? Yes. was I successful? NO. Because all of the johnny-come-lately members were scooping up any tickets available.

    This being said. Stop whining about Miley, and the fan club. Let your kids enjoy the website. They will receive a real membership card, a bracelet, a couple of postcards (one which Miley has autographed on the back. REAL autograph, not a stamp). My daughter was THRILLED with this stuff. Let your kids be kids. Try to take this up with congress or whatever. Leave Miley & Mileyworld out of it.

    Gretchen, I am sure you are shocked your blog took on such a large audience!!! I feel like you do, and have told my girls accordingly. Its not the girls fault, she is a girl, just doing her job. Which if you liked her music and acting you should still. Its a shame all this has happened, and something is wrong, but we MUST NOT blame a child for an adults wrongdoing.
    Higgy, how clever you are with your e-bay post! It made me smile in the midst of aggravation. I especially loved the part of the #2 pencil.
    Yes, I did say things about MileyWorld, we joined without knowing about the pre-sale. My little one was wanting to do the chat and the web page and it was promised on there it is monitored and a good, clean, safe place for kids to be. Have you looked at the chat rooms while your child is on there?
    Give it a look, some of the things some of the kids say are horrible, some are mean, and the other night one little boy was saying curse words so badly we had to report him and I made my child get off of there. Thats my point, like my husband said, the website is for fun not tickets but it should be clean and not nasty.The pre-sale was a help in the decision to join though, it some how justified the cost. Whats done is done, no tickets, oh well, thats life. We are over it, we are not going and thats that. Hopefully something will be done to correct the ticket problem….. I don’t want to contact the media because I don’t want to come off as a Mom begging for tickets– not that thats what anyone is doing– no offense to anyone.
    Gretchen, I think its nice you put this post on here. We actually turned on the Hannah Montana CD this morning and had a good old time listening to it!

    Michelle – I don’t mind the publicity. ;) And chat rooms, no matter what site are usually not a good thing. My kids love Barbie.com but we’ve had to heavily monitor that one as well. My daughter has been hit on more than once, but another member who obviously was not a child. /:)

    I entertained the idea of adding chat rooms here for the younger kids, but not being able to secure it has kept me from implementing it. :(

    Well, my fifteen minutes are up, and the darn DVR didn’t get the whole recording because they started the news at 4:58. Oh well, the story was good, and they’ve posted the interview on line (but no video.)

    If you can’t get into the MileyWorld website, that probably means they are having another “pre-sale” for somewhere else in the United States.

    That means too many people are going to join the club, not get tickets then cry “i want my money back”

    Not gonna happen, people……

    On Mileyworld.com, the guided introduction states than one of the advantages will give you “immediate access to online ticket sales” which never happened since we did not even get an access code to enter on the ticketmaster.com site after joining the club. This makes mileyworld.com website responsible for some aspect of this mess since their marketing for Mileyworld.com presale ticket advantage is very misleading…..even fraudulent!!!!! Even club members that have been members for a long period of time have not been able to obtain tickets….who is getting the tickets?????

    I am sorry to pick on Miley. But come on… She should stand up for all those thousands of little girls that madeher who she is. Without these girls she would be NO ONE.. And this is a moral issue.. I am sure she is aware of what is going on.. And incase i am wrong then her parents no.. And they should be ashamed of themselves. I think everyone shouls boycott Hannah Montana and teach her wallet the same harsh lesson in life that our little girls are learning.. Everyone on the food chain will feel the effects.. If we work together then we can change things … What do you say moms.. Lets doing something about this.. If Miley spoke out then maybe she could help us change it..

    I, too joined the mileyworld website where I figured out where the “code” was. I wrote down that code. Even if the whole thing could have been a total scam, I figured my daughter would have a year of mileyworld.com to play with. On our presale day (I was at work on the computer), I was ready. I had already previously registered with ticketmaster and had my code written down right beside me. When the 10 o’clock time came, I had already been logged onto ticketmaster and hit “buy” at 10am exactly. The computer went wild, clicking and constantly kept coming to this screen asking me about the security of what i was doing which I kept clicking “yes” to. At first I tried to get seats in the lower area. It at first told me none were available. Then I tried to get the upper seats. After about 4 min. or so of the clicking that I had gotten before, 4 seats in the upper area came up. Now I had previously set up my credit card and info. so now i only had to click “buy” and the deal was done. Another person that I know in my area clicked on at the same time, got upper seats also, 4 of them. Another friend of mine got 2 upper seats. So I know that the process works, you just had to be ready to take whatever came up. All of us had joined the mileyworld website and had different presale codes to use. When I tried to get on to ticketmaster on the day of the general sale to get my cousin and her girls tickets, we never had a chance. The tickets were sold out (whatever amt. of tickets they had). My cousin’s husband couldn’t take the stress of it all, went upstairs and bought 3 tickets from a dealer for $120 each. I figure that I just got lucky. But the mileyworld website worked for me. It was not a scam.

    Thanks For your support. My little girl is heartbroken. She has been waiting for Hannah to release her concert tickets for a long time. The look on her face when we realized it wasnt going to happen was ashame. And no amount of explaining will help her understand. I will not help Miley earn $1 until she stands up for her fans and does whats right.. Thank you for your support..

    I too was shut out of the MileyWorld pre-sale. I joined a while ago as well but was happy that the membership included a pre-sale. Sitting at the computer anxiously awaiting 10:00 I hit the code but, was unlucky. My friend was able to score 2 although she needed 4. They are good tickets. Approximately 20 minutes after desperately trying to get into tktmaster, I checked ebay and noticed that there were numerous tkts available, most of the auctions were from the same person, obviously a broker. My question is, how are they able to do this? Do they have a staff? Special computer programs? It was my understanding that only one order per house hold and a 4 tkt limit was allowed. How is it that, this particular person has over 30 tkts and is now trying to rob they parents of innocent children? I don’t blame Miley at all. In strongly believe that there has to be some sort of requlations put in place regarding the sales of tickets. I know that this has been going on forever but, when it comes to shows for children I just find it all the more upsetting.

    I haven’t received replies from Miley world. That site is a scam. Charging $30 for a presale that never existed. I am from Illinois and will find the Better Business Bureau and will toil to get that 30 back. They scammed us. I don’t need to look at pictures of Bill Ray Cyrus on their site. My daughter likes the show but doesn’t need to be a member.

    Another thing. Just because some people got tickets is not the issue. The issue is why this site won’t refund peoples money. They had plenty who are happy with the site but should refund those who do not want to be a member. Simple as that. I cam return anything to any store no questions asked but this site is above the American way. It is a scam and if you don’t realized it then you too are fools. Dont you think that the site also sends fake messages to this site expressing how satisfied they are with Miley world. Don’t be scammed. And quit speaking of Miley as this ‘little 15 y.o.” who is innocent of all of this. She and her dad are very powerful and well aware of what is happening. I am through with them. Hope she is pregnant

    thats right Bill, why should we care about poor little 15 year old Miley… What about the poor 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14 year old girls that are being hurt by these money making scams. As an adult i can handle it.. But no way should my 5 year old have to learn these lessons.. I am glad i wasnt one of the ones to join Mileys World. For all of you that did.. Dont stop until you are 100% satisfied. If we dont do something about it then this will never stop.. If every person does one small thing imagine the changes we could make TOGETHER… For all the little girls in the world…

    Thanks for all of your support. If anyone else was scammed by the Miley World site, write or call Disneychannel and complain about Mileyworld and let them know that you are disappointed fan and you will be turning off Disneychannel. There is also a politician who is suing Ticketmaster and I have contacted him regarding the Mileyworld site.

    Sherri, You contact the Attorney General for the state in which you live. I spoke to Jay Nixon’s Office, the Missouri Attorney General. File a complaint and they will contact the website. I continue to let Miley World know about the progress i.e. the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney general and the Disneychannel. They don’t seem too concerned but they will be when they are shut down.

    Thanks,Bill, for the info on the Tennessee BBB. Filed a comlaint this a.m. Also contacted RMG Tech and basically told them that many people had been alerted to their scam by the WSJ article. Received an email from Ed Garibay at ed@rmgtech.com stating that it was a shame that people believed the WSJ story and that Ticketmaster was “loving it”. I didn’t expect the truth or an apology, but to listen to him put down this newspaper made me really angry. I’m sure that they dug deep to figure out how this company was involved.
    Go to petitiononline.com and type in Hannah Montana or Ticketmaster. Over 5000 signatures from unhappy consumers. That’s a Hell of a lot of people-and many more don’t know that these petitions exist so pass it on!!!!

    For those of you who don’t know about the article that I’m refering to, go to WSJ.com(Hannah Montana Battles The Bots). Among other things, it states that up to 80% of tickets to some shows can be purchased by scalpers using software provided by RMG Tech. 80%???? That really explains a lot!!!

    I just wanted to say that some of you don’t realize how many of those seats were reserved for “special” people. Personally, I had a meet and greet pass and front seats. I got them because the studio I record at is the brother studio of HR. Some people don’t even realize how much pressure it is when people hate you for something you have no control over. The presale does exist. Her tickets are just demanded by so many children throughout the US.
