Overcoming Obstacles…no such word as Can’t

nursesonownAs a hospital Registered Nurse, I was often deterred from practicing my profession outside the hospital walls. Then, I decided with a colleague to create the first Independent Nursing Practice Clinic and Business in a free standing office to act as a supplement to Doctors …not a substitute.

We overcame many obstacles to do this and even were terminated from the hospital for an “outside interest” in Nursing! We took the case all the way to Federal Court and the hospital settled with us on the Court steps. The case was titled Gibson and Catterson versus Christ!

I was also told I could never get our story published in a book, but I did. I called the Chief Editor of a major New York Publisher and told him the story and sent him a chapter and an outliine and he bought it in a few weeks. The book is Nurses On Our Own, St. Martin’s Press and AVon paperback still available at Amazon. It is the story of overcoming obstacles and success in business and Nursing.

I was also told I couldn’t have a television show, but I do and it is available globally on the web at Ustreamtv.com (Enter Outspoken with Karon)… It is also on cable in Chicago land…..

We have been written up in numerous newspapers, the Congressional Record and People Magazine.

I see No or can’t as a word you have to get around to a Yes…..and it is always possible if you persevere!

I love it when we women prove someone wrong…. and on top of it all your book is about breaking through challenges. So cool! Thanks for sharing your story and your tv show. Great stuf!
