It’s track and field season in the sports world, so after a recent request for a shot put design, I decided to work up some new athletic characters for the famous Olympic-inspired competitions.
In case anyone is wondering, the women aren’t very far behind in record-holding for the shot put. According to wikipedia, the current world records are held by:

I’d say it’s just a matter of time before a woman beats one of the men’s records. Wouldn’t that be sweet?

Find some older girls in the grades above you who do this event and start learning from them. That is the best thing you can do for fast results. ;)

I love track and field and have great respect for throwers of both genders. Women can develope all the talent and technique of male throwers, but like other sports where they both compete, the ladies can never match the male strength level. Someday perhaps, way out in the future a powerful lady may bench press 400 pounds…………..but then given the male anatomy, men will still be doing 2 to 3 times that much. The best lady thrower in the world, using the men’s shot is still woefully behind even the top high school boys throwers. Ask your top lady thrower at school to go pick up and throw the 16 pound shot, and don’t be surprised if it falls under 20 feet. Thats about 1/4 the distance of the best men !

I’m insulted. I’m #1 girls shot on my team, and my teammates, and other coaches around the school respect me for that. My PR currently is 27 ft, that I threw with a 6 pound ball on 4/28/09 I think.

I really don’t want to start a flame war or anything here, but that makes absolutely no sense, Amanda. Don’t blame genetics on other people. There’s no person stopping you fron going out and throwing farther than guys. If you REALLY want to go out and beat the guys’ record with a guys’ shot, than good luck, but don’t blame your physical limits on others.
