One of my favorite bands released a new album this week. Rock What You Got by Superchick has been a long time coming, but it’s finally here! If you’re not familiar with Superchick, you really should check them out. With hits like Anthem, One Girl Revolution, Me Against the World, Hero, We Live and Beauty from Pain, Superchick has made a big impact in the music world. Their songs are upbeat and very positive with a unique sound that blends techno, pop with R&B and other styles for a very unique sound.
I’ve had Rock What You Got blazing through my iTunes for a couple of days now and it is phenomenal. I love it when bands reinvent themselves and aren’t afraid to try new things. Superchick excels at creating new sounds and catchy lyrics. The best song on the album, in my opinion, is track #7 “So Beautiful”. The song is another fantastic anthem for girls. My own daughters caught onto it right away and they’ve been playing it in their rooms before bedtime (lyrics listed at the bottom of this post).
A couple months ago, I was fortunate enough to attend a Superchick concert here in my hometown. It was an amazing show and the band really connects with the crowd. The performance was energetic and fun, but they also took time out to speak to teens about serious issues and offer hope. Before the jammin’ concert, I was able to meet the band and talk with them for a few minutes. They are all very outgoing and sincere. My kids were thrilled about meeting them in person. My girls are huge fans and frequently ask me to play Superchick when we travel. In fact, the first thing they wanted me to load on their mp3 players were all of my Superchick albums.
Lyrics for So Beautiful by Superchick:
We are a thousand voices strong
We are each girl who sings this song
We are a beauty that is our own
And we are
And we are
So beautiful
We are light
We were born beautiful
We were meant to be more then these shadows of girls
They cut us down to size
Afraid we’ll change the world?
But we’ll fight for your right to be beautiful girls
If every girl could see her beauty,
We would be an army
We are a thousand voices strong
We are each girl who sings this song
We are a beauty that is our own
And we are
And we are
So beautiful
We have dreams we were born to fufill
We were meant to be more than just fairy tale girls
We are the colors so bright
Each beautiful girl
We are the stars in the night
And we are changing the world
When every girl can see her beauty we will be an army
