In early 2000, I saw a show called De La Guarda. It blew my mind. I saw it five times and brought all of my friends. The very last time I saw it, I remember looking at the program and thinking, “I can do this………No, I HAVE TO DO THIS.” At the time I was working as an environmental consultant and had just finished college. Even though I had trained in dance my whole life, I had given up performing in lieu of a “real job,” and at the time I mostly danced for fun and to keep in shape. But after seeing De La Guarda, seeing these people literally FLY, I started to think about what really inspired me and what I wanted my life in turn to inspire. Ultimately, it wasn’t late nights in the office with lawyers, reports, and deadlines.
So I quite my job (despite everyone calling me crazy), started teaching dance, moved to NYC and within six months, I had booked a tour. Since then I have been blessed with multiple performing opportunities that inspire, including touring the globe with Pilobolus, performing in Japan for almost a year and working with amazing choreographers on new musicals. Fuerzabruta (a show made by the same visionaries as De La Guarda), just brought me full circle. From standing in the Daryl Roth Theater years ago thinking, “I HAVE TO DO THIS,” to actually doing it! Everyday I am so grateful.

Isn’t it amazing what you can accomplish when you tell yourself you CAN do it? So awesome to hear you went after your dream and you’re making it happen. What a fabulous opportunity you have!
