For the longest time I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life or what I wanted to go to school for, and so recently I started thinking about taking lessons to get my pilots license for helicopters.
I have told a few friends and my family about it, most of them completely back me up and especially my dad since he is also a pilot but there was one guy in particular who told me ‘who would ever hire a 19 year old girl with no experience’ that he could never see me doing it and what not. Now I am determined to prove them wrong and am starting lessons this month!
I can’t wait to be able to tell people that I work as a pilot for a living…just to see the shock on their faces! Wish me luck!

Anne – that is FANTASTIC advice! That’s almost a whole post by itself. Thanks for the encouraging words. :)>-

1) Live your life for you. Don’t become a helicopter pilot because other people frustrate you. Become a helicopter pilot because you want to learn something different….for you.
2) Never think that becoming a pilot is hard because you are a girl. It’s just plain hard at first….for everybody. The key to a great pilot is to never give up and when something isn’t working, try a different approach. literally!
3) Become your own “commander”. Find your own way of picturing yourself at the controls of your helicopter at 2000 ft above ground, with noone there to tell you what to do. It’s alittle scary or lonely for some at first, but the more you picture yourself there, the faster it will become a normal idea in your mind and a reality!
4) As for the na-sayers out there and believe me I’ve met a few…Well Justine, the simplest way I can put it is that they are sad inside. They want to get rid of the sadness so bad that they will try to pass it off to anybody, including you. Try not to let these people get to you and although I can tell you are the helping kind, this kind of pain can only be fixed on thier own.
So have fun with your career and happy landings!
