No, you can’t. Because you’re a girl.

Football GirlWhen I was a young girl (about 12) I wanted to play hockey, but my dad told me I couldn’t because I was a girl. My parents put me in figure skating instead. I lasted about a year. I was never much of an athlete all through school, but I always remember how it felt to be told I couldn’t do something simply because of my gender.

Last year, at 41, I joined a women’s tackle football team. It’s the most exciting and rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I’ve met the most amazing, strong, motivated women I’ve ever known. We’re a football family and I will never let anyone tell me “girls can’t…. ” again. I hope my example is teaching my two daughters that they can go after whatever their hearts desire.

Connie – that is an incredible example! You’ve earned my respect. It’s hard to start anything at any age but to start a sport as rough as football as an older adult is pretty freaking amazing! Way to go. I have no doubt your girls will see your message. :)
