A Moment of Silence for Neda and All Revolutionaries

NedaToday I want us all to take a moment to stop and think about those whose lives are tragically lost in the name of freedom.  The woman in the photo is Neda.  She was an Iranian woman hoping to have a career in travel, leading Iranians on trips abroad.  She was also an accomplished singer who was also taking piano lessons.  Last Saturday, Neda was gunned down while on her way to make a stand for her freedom as a woman and as a human being. You can read the full story of Neda here.

If you’re not sure what’s going on, read this CNN article about Iranian women leading the protests against the latest government elections.  I love the quote from the 19 year old demonstrator who says:

“I’m absolutely optimistic, because history has taught me that all the revolutions start like this. Every revolution has violence and some people die, but nothing stays like this forever.”

How right she is. ;)

To all of those risking their own lives to fight injustices and pave the way for future generations, we honor you.

“The arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” (I paraphrase Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.). All forms, AND I MEAN ALL forms of injustice will end. It is inevitable. May our sister Neda rest in peace, and rest assured that she has contributed to our moving humanity towards a consciousness that will ensure justice. Many blessings to you for this post.

  • This is so tragic, but I really appreciate that you’ve taken the time to mention and remember Neda here. Her quote is so true and she is such an inspiration for women everywhere.
