Weekly Poll: Your Geekiest Moment

If you scored reasonably high on the How Geeky Are You Quiz, then I am willing to bet you have some fabulous stories for this week’s survey: Your Geekiest Moment. You know you have one. As always, I will be brave and share mine, which ironically happened this morning at 6:25am.

Let me preface this by confessing that last week I finally picked up a Palm TX because I wanted a pda with wifi so I can be eternally connected to my email. I have been a Palm addict since 1999 and if I could find a way to surgically attach the device to myself, I would. For now, I will settle for shopping only for pants and shorts with pockets.

Anyway, at 6:25am this morning, my Palm began chirping it’s usual wake up call. I usually let it snooze itself a couple of times before I shut it off. This means it just beeps again 5 minutes later without me touching it. It’s magic. This morning, I knew there was a pretty good chance that last night’s snow storm had buried us and we were looking at a “Snow Day”. So instead of surfing the wave of the magic snooze, I reached up behind my head and picked up my new palm while simultaneously pressing the web button.

By the time my arm landed back on my pillow and my eyes had adjusted to the bright light of the screen, I was connected to the web and the Girls Can’t WHAT? home page was smiling at me. Using my fingernail, I tapped the bookmarks and scrolled until I saw the one marked “school closings”. It loaded within 2 seconds and after a little more scrolling with my thumb, I saw that my kids’ school was closed. At this point it was now 6:26am. No need to even get out of bed. In fact, I could just lay my palm down (it will shut itself off) and go back to sleep.

But I’m a geek. b-) I hit my bookmarks again and surfed on over to gmail to see what could possibly have landed in my inbox in the few hours since my 3am bedtime. I typed a few replies, sent one new one and hit at least 3 more web sites, including Yahoo weather only to find out we have 6 inches of the white stuff already and another 6-8 is on its way. I could have stopped there, but I decided to peruse a few RSS feeds before finally pressing the power button and returning to dreamland. Time? 7:06am.

I have shared other geeky stories here before, but somehow I think I have reached a whole new level.
