In my previous career, I was the Business Administrator for a homeless shelter and my office was located in the same building that housed the women and children. It was my duty to stock and dispense all personal items, including pads and tampons. We received donations on a daily basis but I can’t ever remember having feminine hygiene products donated to our shelter. We always had to purchase those items. I never thought about why, but when my sister sent me this email, I was like “Oh yeah – we did have to buy those every week!” Here is the original message:
Women’s shelters in the U.S. go through thousands of tampons and pads monthly. Assistance agencies generally help with expenses of “everyday” necessities such as toilet paper, diapers, and clothing, but one of the most BASIC needs is overlooked – feminine hygiene products.
Seventh Generation, a green paper products and cleaning products company, has a do-good attitude and will donate a box of sanitary products to a women’s shelter in your chosen state – just for clicking the link. Talk about easy (literally takes less than 1 minute and they ask nothing of you). And, yes, it is legitimate!

Better check your “facts” Anti-sexist. I can think of four men-only shelters off the top of my head. You can find hundreds more with a little googly moogly. I think you missed the point entirely…
Anti-sexist
Just stating a fact. In the USA there are over 200 shelters for only homeless women. And if your thinking, “Thats not enough, I bet men and boys get better” you are wrong. There are only 4 for men only. And that there are laws that say that if there is a sport that a girl would like to play she can join the boys team yet recently in Wisconsen there was a court case where a judge rejected a boys plea to sue a team for girl’s gymnastics when he could not join even though there wasn’t one for boys or both sexes arond? This renders that post useless.

Uh…and I don’t mean that kind of “late” in case you thought that’s what I meant. ;)

OK – so I just checked and they have temporarily suspended the program. I’ll leave my post up just in case they start it up again. I actually wrote this post several days ago when the program was still active, but I hadn’t published it. It’s not like me to be late. [-(
