Between the influx of registered users and the barrage of requests for help I have received via email in the last couple of months, I thought maybe it was time to put two and two together. A mentoring type of “program” was suggested to me many moons ago when I first started building this site, but at the time I didn’t had too much on my plate to put any thought or effort into creating such a thing. With membership approaching 500 lovely ladies and counting, I think maybe it’s time to put something together. I’m just brainstorming out loud here, so don’t expect a detailed plan to follow. I’m just looking for interest, feedback and ideas to see if “mentoring” is worth pursuing.
First of all, I don’t like the word “mentor”. Too close to the word “mental” and, well, people think I’m mental already. “Buddies” is too cheesy, although that’s the current term used in the forums, but perhaps I can hack that…
A quick look at dictionary.com offers these synonyms for mentor: coach, counselor, guide, guru, instructor, teacher, trainer, tutor. I’m liking “Guru”. It has a “G” in it. My favorite letter. :D Guru by definition means “any person who counsels or advises” and “a leader in a particular field”. That’s what I’m looking for – leaders! I have limited knowledge in a few subjects and I can only help a few people at a time. If we were to all pool our resources together, we could help each other.
So give me your thoughts…do you like this idea? Would you participate? Would you like to be assigned a guru or a student? Do you prefer one-on-one or group
