Encouraging our Daughters to be Ladylike

I ran across a great comment on our current culture in Newsweek magazine:

“It used to be that moms would control the way their daughters dressed. But now we have this Desperate Housewives culture, and the moms are as influenced by the media as the kids. They’ve lost the sense of encouraging their daughters to be ladylike.” ~Wendy Shalit, author of A Return To Modesty

I am in the process of getting a copy of this book to review soon, since this seems to be such a hot topic on this site. ;)

I just viewed Princess Bubble – thanks, it’s not the book I lost, but I’d be interested in purchasing it. I will continue to search for the one I lost though. Thanks so much!

Hmm, Princess Bubble? Unfortunately, I wouldn’t know without the author. It was in paperback and I would recognize the cover. I remember reading the section about several relationships where the girl would give her all, only to be desvistated at some point down the line because they did not value themselves as God does nor realize the princess within them. She would give her all and the guy would take and recieve without considering her worth.

I would be interested in the book “Encouraging our daughters to be lady like”. Furthermore, maybe you can help me further. My daughter bought a book at the San Fransisco airport to read on our flight to Hilo. While she was napping, I picked up the book and read some of it. I was delighted with it, however, I left it on the airplane. All we know is that it was a Christian author, addressing young women about the choices they make in dating and relationships. It had the word Princess in the title of the book. Can you help me out?

Hey – Cindi – how’s life in the hometown? I’m picking up my copy of this book tomorrow and I should have a review up within a couple of weeks, assuming I can get some reading done during the holidays. ;)

  • I’m interested in your review of this book. This idea of this books has hit the nail on the head in today’s fashion. I am by no means a fashion guru but as the mom of 2 daughters facing Middle School and High School, clothing issues are everyday at my house.

  • I’d be interested to borrow that book once you’re done with it. :)
