Yeah, you read that right. It’s an all-girl band from Saudi Arabia, a country where women are still seen as second-class citizens. Knowing what the norm is for their country, these four female college students, Dina, Dareen, Lamia, and Amjad decided to buck the system anyway and form a rock band.

So not only are they female, but they play rock which in itself has been a form of music much rejected in their culture but seems to be making a splash among the young adults. So kudos to Accolade for taking a stand and paving the way for future Saudi rockers.

They sound very good and are very brave to break new ground for women. I wish them the best of luck and that they are able to go far with their band.

Yay for homogenization. 8-| It is heartening in one aspect, but disheartening in another. I would rather they used some instruments or styles from their own culture. (Cool cover art, though)
