I’m at the age where I need to start thinking about where I want to go to college and what I want to go to college for. For a while now, I have known what I want to do. I’ve grown up around sports, and my dad is writer, so naturally, I put those two things together.
I want to become a journalist. Better yet, a sports journalist. Thats where I lose people when I tell them my future plans. Sure, I’ll tell people that I want to become a writer, and the normal reponse I get is “Oh, i can see you know, covering the breaking news on a big time news station.” Or the other one I will get is, “look out world, here comes the next Katie Couric.”
So, when I tell then that I want to be a sports writer, it takes them a second to realize that they heard me right. It takes them a bit to realize that a GIRL just told them the she wants to cover SPORTS. It always makes me laugh, because so many people have it in their heads that girls don’t like sports, let alone, like them enough to want to write about them.

Good on you Anna. I’m 19 and I am studying a sports coaching degree. I also want to work in sports business. I get told all the time girls cant coach or work in business. I am highly competitive and would love to show everyone that I can work in a management role at Cricket Australia (for example). I wish you all the best…..and to top it all off I hope you work your way to the top to show all the sexist fools how talented we really are :D
