Well, it’s time for my daughter’s birthday and it has happened again. She wants blue balloons and all hell has broken loose at our house.
Ok, not really, but there was some drama involved.
Last year, I told the story of Katelynn picking out blue for her birthday party and then being talked out of it by my husband who convinced her that “blue is a boy color“. This year, she wants a bouquet of blue, white and black balloons.
Sounds fine to me, afterall blue is her favorite color.
My husband’s instantaneous reaction was “WHAT? Blue, white and BLACK?” Once again, Kate hesitates and then changes her mind to blue, purple and pink, which pleases Dad.
This time, Mom steps in to save the day. :D
I happen to have a taste for non-traditional “girl” colors. I prefer green, black and brown as my top three shades, and I cannot stand pink. I thought blue, black and white was a good combination so I spoke up and said so.
Hubby argued with me saying they aren’t “normal” colors.
I said “Normal? You mean for a girl?”
Of course, knowing the nature of this web site and the types of things I write about on here, he avoided the question.
Smart move.
He conceded and decided to let the birthday girl pick out her own balloons. So blue, black and white they will be.
Score one for the chicks. b-)

OK – so we just had the party this morning at the local skating rink and before I arrived with the kids, this lady looks over at the balloons and then leans over to my husband and says “how old will your little boy be?” /:)
