I really love rock music and writing songs. I’m a big fan of groups like Billy Talent and Tokio Hotel, but I’m finding it really hard to break into the industry. In terms of fan bases, girls are often the more productive fans that guys, and even if there are guys in my band, I’m still the frontwoman because I would be the vocalist. And often times girls like bands because the frontman is attractive…and guess what? I am not a man! Haha.
So you can see what I’m worrying about…the insecurities of being in a “man’s” industry. :(
I just want to be able to make great music that will get fists pumping and everyone out of their seats, but I can’t help but doubt myself and feel really weakened because I’m a girl. It’s so angering!
So I’m getting my band together, we have some great songs to work with. I just hope that we won’t get turned away because I’m female. My inspiration is Avril Lavigne. She was always so unique, and proved that girls can do anything they want to. Even if now she’s fading into the backround, when she was younger she was my idol.

I think that in the end it all depends on the music. It has to be catchy. With the right music, everybody can sell. The promotion has to be right. But it depends on the image & talents if the person will be a star. Good music + boring artist = one hit wonder. Good music + interesting artist = star.
I think you should probably wait until you are older. Now you’re 13, maybe you wait until you are at least 16. Artists your age get much hate most of the time. In the meantime, you can go on with school, write your own songs, train your voice and just grow up without being in the spotlight the whole time.
Why begin now? You have your whole life to be in the music industry. You can make friends, you can make haters at school. You will fall in love with a guy who doesn’t like you and in the end he will look dumb because he sees that you are the shit! It’s like in Avrils song S8erboi lol

Cassie – you raise a very good point. It is more difficult for girls to get a fan base when they are in their early teens. I hadn’t thought of that before. One way to really get attention is to put together an all-girl band. That usually raises eyebrows and draws attention by both men and women. That might be a smart move to get your music out where it can be heard by industry professionals. ;)
