Danica is the First Woman to Win an Indy Race

I can’t tell you how many people either called or emailed me today to let me know that Danica Patrick won the Indy Race yesterday in Japan. Woo hoo! Lots of Danica fans here. :D Not only do I know that from the emails and phone calls, but the Girls Can’t WHAT? race car driver design has been selling quite a bit here lately.

Danica won by 5.8594, seconds ahead of Helio Castroneves on the 1.5-mile Twin Ring Motegi oval track after leader Scott Dixon pitted with five laps left and Dan Wheldon and Tony Kanaan came in a lap later.

“It’s a long time coming. Finally,” Patrick said. “It was a fuel strategy race, but my team called it perfectly for me. I knew I was on the same strategy as Helio and when I passed him for the lead, I couldn’t believe it. This is fabulous.”

Congrats Danica – You earned it!

As the daughter of two Hoosiers, I have listened to or watched every Indy 500 since at least 1964. My first name is Janet, so I was especially thrilled when Janet Guthrie broke the gender barrier at Indy. Danica does Janet proud and I have high hopes for this year’s 500!

  • That is so awesome. She is a true inspiration. I hope someday we can meet her.
