Every month I get to do the best part of my job. I get to hand out cash to women around the world to help them start their own business, improve their living conditions or pay for an education.
As cool as that is to get to change lives with the funds I make from this web site, I’m always a little sad when I step away from the computer because I don’t have unlimited funds to help everyone. And while I only have small amounts to give, some people have big needs, like Mirian.
No, I don’t think money is the answer to everyone’s problems. But helping women get an education or loaning them money to pay for inventory to start a business is one of the best things we can do. Getting women out of poverty is crucial to making our world a better place and education is one of the keys.
But how about clean water, a working toilet or a roof over their heads? Those are important, too, and we can help make that happen for women like Biljana in Kosovo.
As a Girls Can’t WHAT? fan, I wanted you to meet a few of the people we were able to help today, like Naira. This single mom lives in Dilijan city, Armenia with who school age children and sells vegetables to supplement her income. Our loan of $25 will help Naira purchase a garage to safely store her produce and supplies.
To date we have given over $11,000 in loans to 453 people and counting. A single loan is only $25 and once it is paid back, you can re-lend it to someone new. It never stops giving.
