My daughter ran into this issue recently. She had been repeatedly practicing a particular move in volleyball that she had been struggling with and she was really improving. During an intense game against one of her team’s toughest opponents last week, she had the opportunity to execute this skill she had worked hard to achieve… and she nailed it.
Later on, someone said to her “Oh, that was just luck.”
Newsflash: When someone works hard to achieve a goal, it’s not luck when they achieve it. But how often do we see this in the world of womens sports or even in careers that are not traditionally pursued by women? Let’s give women credit for their hard work and stop calling it luck.
What would you say to someone who just thinks you’re “lucky” and doesn’t acknowledge your skills? Tell me your answer in the comments below.
