McDonald’s Laces Fries with Meth, Customers Addicted

At least that’s my theory.

I can’t prove it, but who doesn’t crave McDonald’s french fries every once in a while?  I know, I know…..they’re horribly bad for your health…they make you fat…they have zero nutritional value, but..but…but… but they taste so dang good!

Let me tell you a little something about McDonald’s french fries you already know by experience but probably never thought about.  No matter which of the thousands of Mickey D’s franchises you visit, you are guaranteed that those fries will taste the same.  Every. Single. Time.

Why is that? Because McDonald’s spent a huge amount of time perfecting their business model so that they can churn out food to the masses that results in the same quality, taste and experience.  Every. Single. Time.

We keep going back to McDonald’s because it tastes good.  Every. Single. Time. I mean even the little tiny half-burned ones in the bottom of the bag are still good.  Oh don’t act like you’ve never double-checked to make sure you rounded up all the fries. That’s right you did…don’t lie!

So I’m thinking… what if we could duplicate this experience on a different level? What if we could take some component of our dreams and goals and make it irresistible? What if we could standardize it, package it and present it to ourselves in such a way that we crave it?  How much better and more efficient could we be?  How much quicker could we reach our goals if we intensely desired the very things that would move us forward.

This morning as I considered all of the possible excuses I could think of to leave the house and “just happen to pass” a McDonald’s around lunch time for a “fix”, I realized this could be a huge shift in our productivity if we apply it to other areas of our lives.  So I started thinking along those lines…  If I want to be a better drummer, what can I change about my practice times to have the same quality, the same experience and the same highly addictive taste… Every. Single. Time.

When I framed it that way, the ideas started popping up all over the place.  Then I thought about my artwork, my band and all the other activities, dream and goals in my life.  How can I make some of those things so addicting that I just have to do them or I’d go nuts?  What can I change to make me look for excuses to engage in them?

I’m not suggesting we run our lives like a fast food restaurant – ick! No!  But if we could make a few things as addictive as those meth fries…

Well…You get the point.  Now get on with it… what can you do to make your dream even more addictive?

While you’re posting your comment, I think I’ll run to the bank…or the library… or maybe my car needs some gas…yeah, that’s it.  Oh look – a McDonald’s…
