Natasha Bedingfield – Unwritten

Every once in a while my kids will get a song stuck in their heads and drive me nuts by singing it at the top of their lungs every chance they get. Normally I find this highly obnoxious, but this week’s tune is “Unwritten”by Natasha Bedingfield and I kind of like it. Ok, I really like it – a lot. I think they picked it up off a Barbie CD or one of the kid-friendly web sites I allow them to visit. Unwritten has been circulating the airwaves for a while now, but I’ve heard it on the radio quite a bit more here lately. The lyrics to this song are very cool and the song is really catchy. I would definitely add this to my “inspirational song” list. I especially like the lines “I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines/We’ve been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can’t live that way.

Lyrics to Unwritten by Natasha BedingfieldI am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined
I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplannedStaring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

*Chorus*
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We’ve been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can’t live that way
Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inner visions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Actually – to set the record straight – I had heard the song long before posting this, but I really didn’t pay much attention to it. Now that my kids are addicted to singing it, I am taking notice and discovering that I really like it. :d

  • I also heard it before you. xD

That music’s always in the radio. (Playlists in Portugal are like… poor in quantity of
musics) But I never had look to the lyrics.

  • Oh, FINALLY!! A song that I heard before YOU!! LOL Okay, I loved this song the first time I heard it on Late Night with Carson Daly…she ROCKS this song with an acoustic guitar, btw. ;) Fantastic singer…she was better live than she even is in this recording.

Great song! :) Definitely a positive, uplifting and inspirational one.
