Forget the Disney princesses… meet some some real-life heroines. Girl Rising is a beautiful and important film – one that stands on its own as great cinema. Yet it carries a powerful message: if we educate girls, we can change the world.
In just three days, Girl Rising – the film at the center of 10×10’s campaign for girls’ education – will be in Regal Cinemas across the United States! From April 19 to 25, Regal Cinemas is rolling out Girl Rising for an exclusive, week-long run in 169 theatres nationwide.
The purpose of the film is to spread the important message that girls’ education matters. Around the world, girls face barriers to education that boys do not. Tradition, work, and cultural practices like early marriage prevent millions of girls from attending school. Yet when you educate girls, truly extraordinary things can happen. Research shows that when girls have access to quality education: GDP rises, early marriage decreases, population growth stabilizes, agriculture output grows, and health outcomes improve. In fact, you can break the cycle of poverty in just one generation!
The global impact of gender equality in education is truly something to get excited about! This groundbreaking film helps put a face on the 66 million girls currently out of school. Directed by Academy Award nominee Richard Robbins, Girl Rising tells the stories of 9 extraordinary girls from 9 countries, written by 9 celebrated writers and narrated by 9 renowned actresses, including Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Alicia Keys, and Selena Gomez.
We know that drawing attention to girls’ education is a powerful way to change the world, and we need your help to make this happen. Grassroots support for the 10×10 campaign for girls’ education has lit the spark. Now, this beautiful and important film is on fire – and we have a tremendous opportunity to ensure many more people see it – and understand the importance of girls’ education for all of us.
Can you help us spread the word? Share it on social media, newsletter, and via e-mail – or perhaps organize groups to go to the movies together in your community! The more people we can get to see Girl Rising, the more girls around the world will benefit. You can find showtimes and buy tickets here: bit.ly/103BkGn.

This film is surely an eye-opener on everyone. Girls should be given equal rights on education and prove themselves in industries that they think only men can.
