Reviving the Revolution

Lately I’ve been focusing on the direction of Girls Can’t WHAT? as a whole.  I’ve analyzed everything from content to comments to popular design requests.  I’ve studied the usability of the site and the way the various pages flow.  I’ve made a LOT of subtle changes that you may or may not have noticed.  All of the changes were developed to make a better, smoother visit for both the newcomers and the regular visitors.

At the same time, I’ve been reading a fascinating book called “Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History” by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich.  The timing couldn’t be better.  Right as I’m trying to pinpoint the direction of this site, this book nails it down for me.  I realized I didn’t know as much about women’s history as I thought I did.  There is so much we can learn from those who have helped pave the way for women’s rights.

So I’m going to revive the revolution.  What is “the revolution” you ask?  When I first started Girls Can’t WHAT? we had a “revolution” theme going.  Many of the posts turned into discussions on how we could “revolutionize” our worlds. We called ourselves “revolutionaries” and we even had our own “rules of engagement” for carrying out a proper revolution.  It was fun and informative and sparked some great discussion from all ages and all cultures.  I miss that about this site.  So my goal now is to bring that element back into my writing.  I want to spark discussion on more current issues.  Book reviews, interviews and other topics that interest will still be prevalent, but my main focus will be on current issues and how we can build skills to rage a proper revolution.  So I’m asking….

Are you ready for a revolution?

As a side note – all of this work has meant putting new design work on hold while I focused on the infrastructure of the site.  As this “makeover” comes to a finish, I am looking forward to getting back to the drawing board so to speak.  You can expect to see new designs interspersed with the regular posts.
