I ran across this nifty photo today. It’s a toilet seat with the rim taped in the down position with a strip of tape. This is quite obviously the work of a frustrated female.
At first it seemed brilliant. I could see adding duct tape to my cleaning basket, tucking it in right next to the bleach. After all, we live in a house of three girls, one guy and three bathrooms. Taping the lid down could save our happy little family. That small gray strip of tape could serve as a great reminder to keep it down! It could be the start of a revolution…we could retrain boys everywhere to sit down and go. The toilet seat lid up/down controversy would officially be over! And we girls would win!
But then I started thinking about how it might be accepted among the menfolk. I know a lot of guys (my thoughtful husband included) that would see the tape and completely ignore it. Being in a rush, they wouldn’t even attempt to sit down and go OR remove the tape. And worse, they might wipe off the rim when they are done or they might not. Either way is gross. So just in case you were about to add tape to your shopping list, take in the mental picture of the guys in your life who would probably take aim at your strip of tape and “forget” to wipe it off. Nasty!I realize the purpose of the photo was to get the point across to the male species that the toilet lid should remain in the down position, but I think it is more important that they get the lid UP – not down. Yes, they should have the common courtesy to put it back down when they are done, but common sense tells us that it stays cleaner in the up position.
And to Doug’s defense, he does usually put the lid down. I am ok about finding it “up” from time to time as long as it’s not in the middle of the night.

What the? One thing I don’t understand about women and this stupid “controversy”:
Is it really that difficult for females to just develop the habit of making sure its down before they sit down? I mean, how the heck do you gals SURVIVE when you have to go to the bathroom in other people’s homes? I mean, after the first, “unfortunate incident” we’ll call it, I would be pretty well trained to always check.
Hopefully this is anonymous but I will admit it happened to me once. Yep, I was the victim and no it wasn’t funny and yes I felt kind of angry. But I’ll tell you what: 1. I got over it. I didn’t start a stupid fight-for-the-sake-of-a-fight and 2. You can be sure it was no more than once!

So How do you feel about…..sitting on pee? If a male can’t lift the seat then there is bound to be some sprinklage. And if it was me and someone taped the seat down like that, I wouldn’t have the courtesy to wipe. Now would a guy that didn’t have the courtesy to put the seat back down have the courtesy to wipe?
