Since this site is designed to highlight women who do extraordinary things, I don’t usually feature lyrics by male artists, but this song by Keith Urban got my attention. It’s called “stupid boy” and it says so much to both men and women. The song speaks for itself, but more than anything, I can appreciate the line “And that’s what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can’t”.
I went looking for a video clip of this so you can hear the actual tune, but the only one I could find was this one, and frankly it scared me.
It is so scary, in fact, that I can’t NOT comment on it. I don’t know who this girl is, but I feel compelled to let her know a few things. First of all, you rock for even having the guts to put that together considering your emotional state-of-mind at that moment. I understand the sentiment behind it, you are/were angry with someone who tried to fence you in. Someone who crushed your dreams and hurt you. It’s ok to feel that way, but I think you have missed the point of the song.

The girl in that song sounds to me like someone who is incredibly strong. Strong enough to merit the phrases “you can’t fence that in” and “holdin’ back the wind”. Your video shows a weak, dejected girl who sulks. Is that what you want the “stupid boy” to see? Wouldn’t it be smarter to show him how much better your life is/will be without him? Show me some footage of a happier you, doing what you love to do. Unrestrained. Carefree. Show the strong, wild side that got away.
Your current video makes it look like “stupid boy” got the best of you. Ugh.
Lyrics:Well she was precious, like a flower
She grew wild,
Wild, but innocent
The perfect prayer in a desperate hour
She was everything beautiful and different
Stupid boy
You can’t fence that in
Stupid boy
It’s like holding back the wind
She let her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can’t
Stupid boy
Stupid boySo, what made you think that you could take a life
And just push it, push it, around
I guess to build yourself up so high,
You had to take her and break her down
She let her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can’tYou stupid boy
Ohh you always had to be right
Now you’ve lost it all
And everything that ever made you feel alive Ohhhhhh yeah yeah
She let her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans (yes you did)
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can’t
You stupid boy
Ohh I’m the same old same old same old stupid boy
It took a while for her to figure out she could run
And when she did she was long gone, long gone.
Mmhmmmm ohhh stupid boy
Ohhh yess
Ohh

Sorry, but real the writer of Stupid Boy deserves all the credit, and that GUY is Dave Berg, one of Nashvilles best singer/ songwriters.

@Pequenovitor – If you suspect your girl is unhappy and you truly value the relationship, I hope you are man enough to talk to her about your feelings and find out what is bothering her. It just may save your relationship.
I also want to add that it is not up to the boyfriend or girlfriend in the relationship to make the other person happy. Happiness is an individual choice. ;)

Hey, girls, hope its okay for a guy to post.. hehe!
I was just wondering about the other side of it.. i mean, i have a girl that i love more than anything, that i’ve never cheated on, that i take care of, pay attention to, she gets unexpected flowers, and compliments every single day, she relies on me for pretty much everything, emotionally speaking.. Still, i dont think she’s happy.. And i wonder if i could be a supid boy too, you know? i mean, in the song Keith Urban is the stupid boy, he says so at the end.. He doesnt sound like a bad guy at all, right? im a musician too, and i just wonder if in 15 years i’l wright a song like that, reallizing my mistakes… Noas simples as at first glance, you know?

Good song, I just heard it tonight on a SNL rerun. I wish all women and girls could hear it…
absurd thought –
God of the Universe thinks
take all girls out of school
they can not be allowed
to achieve more than a man

Reminds me of my life for so long and now my daughter, going through the same thing. I believe she is just about ready to “run.” Stupid boy!! Great song, thanks for putting it out Keith Urban.
